[Poster Presentation] Characteristic Evaluation of Rare Earth Doped Ultraviolet Emitting Phosphors

(in English) This study investigates the luminescent properties of Y2O3- and YF3-based phosphors doped with Ce, Gd, and Pr, aiming to develop novel ultraviolet-emitting materials for EL lamp applications. Samples containing 5 mol% of each rare-earth element were synthesized and characterized using cathodoluminescence (CL) and photoluminescence excitation (PLE) measurements. The results revealed that YF3 hosts exhibit distinct ultraviolet emissions originating from Ce3+, Gd3+, and Pr3+, with Gd3+ showing a dominant excitation pathway independent of emission wavelength. In contrast, Y2O3 hosts displayed broad emissions primarily from the matrix, with limited rare-earth-specific transitions. These findings indicate that YF3 is a promising host material for stable ultraviolet emission. Future work will focus on optimizing dopant species and concentrations, controlling annealing conditions and particle size, and developing thin-film fabrication processes to enable practical EL device applications.
