Wide Viewing Angle and Low Glare LCD Displays Using Microprism Arrays

We investigated a method to simultaneously achieve a wide viewing angle and suppress ambient light reflection using a microprism array placed on the display surface, aiming to improve the visibility of liquid crystal displays. We optimized the prism structure by using ray-tracing simulations based on geometrical optics to control the luminous intensity distribution. Furthermore, we fabricated microprism arrays via the photolithography technique and evaluated their optical characteristics. Our results demonstrate that the proposed structure effectively minimizes glare while maintaining high luminance and a broad light distribution. We conclude that this technology provides an effective approach for realizing next-generation, high-visibility displays. |
