[Poster Presentation] Evaluation of energy level and luminescence properties of Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+,Dy3+ phosphor by Ca substitution

(in English) This study explores the simultaneous control of emission color and persistent luminescence in Sr2MgSi2O7:Eu2+,Dy3+ (SMS) by substituting Ca for Sr. Samples with compositions Sr(1.98-x)CaxSi2O7:Eu,Dy (x = 0–1.98) were synthesized via solid-state reaction and characterized using XRD, PL, PLE, TL, and fluorescence lifetime measurements. Additionally, first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) were performed to analyze changes in bandgap, defect levels, and Eu/Dy energy states. Experimental results revealed that Ca substitution caused a redshift of the emission peak, reduced afterglow intensity, and shifted TL peaks toward lower temperatures. The absorption edge also moved slightly to lower energy, suggesting a minor bandgap reduction. Computational analysis confirmed that the bandgap narrowing was small (~0.2 eV) and no significant changes in oxygen defect levels or rare-earth f-state positions were observed. These findings indicate that Ca substitution primarily modifies the local crystal field, influencing Eu²⁺ 4f–5d transition energy and trap level distribution, thereby accelerating afterglow decay and inducing a color shift.
