This study aimed to develop a predictive functional rehabilitation framework (rehabilitation system) for patients with higher brain dysfunction. As a foundational step, we sought to establish evaluation and analysis methods using only healthy participants. We conducted an experimental task consisting of two phases: a situation-understanding phase and a next-state-prediction phase. Brain activity during the task was measured using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), a noninvasive technique that imposes minimal physical constraints. Preprocessing, including hemodynamic signal separation and band-pass filtering, was applied to the acquired fNIRS signals, followed by machine learning and statistical analyses. The results confirmed differences in brain activity between the phases using both analysis methods and demonstrated that changes in brain states associated with prediction could be captured using fNIRS signal analysis. These findings indicate that the experimental task used in this study appropriately elicited predictive function and demonstrated the effectiveness of the applied analysis and classification techniques. This suggests the feasibility of a predictive functional rehabilitation system for patients with higher brain dysfunction. |
