Elucidating visual, auditory, and tactile integration in texture evaluation of materials within a single category

This study tests order effects in unisensory conditions as a prerequisite for modeling visual–auditory–haptic multisensory integration in textile texture perception within a single material category. Adults with normal vision, hearing, and touch receive unisensory stimuli for four fabrics (sheeting, satin, quilting, and boa): a video of the touching action, the corresponding friction sound, and direct haptic exploration. Modality order is counterbalanced across six sequences, and fabric order is randomized within each modality. After each stimulus, participants provide 7-point ratings using 12 bipolar adjective pairs, assessing whether unisensory bias affects texture judgments. |
