An Examination of Transition Methods between Avatars of Different Sizes

The sense of embodiment is crucial when using virtual avatars. However, instantaneous transitions negatively affect this sense of embodiment. Therefore, our previous research investigated the effect on the sense of embodiment using eight different transition methods between avatars of the same size. The results showed that active transitions to the avatar enhanced the sense of agency and self-position, seamless transitions received high ratings for the sense of acceptance, and transitions involving physical movements received high ratings for the sense of body ownership. In this study, we investigate the effect of transition methods to avatars of different sizes on the sense of embodiment. The results suggest that transition methods involving active, whole-body changes at once may help to acquire the sense of embodiment. |
