Proposal of a Torso-Focused Haptic Feedback System Using VR Devices and a Haptic Suit, and Evaluation of Immersion

This study is to investigate the influence of different haptic feedback methods on immersion. To this end, we proposed a system that synchronizes contact positions on a virtual avatar's torso with haptic feedback delivered to the user's body in real time. By integrating an HMD, VR controllers, and a haptic feedback device, the system maps specific areas of the avatar's torso to the corresponding motor locations on the haptic suit. We conducted a comparative experiment to examine how variations in feedback position and vibration intensity affect the sense of immersion. The results suggest that differences in haptic presentation methods can significantly influence the quality of the immersive experience. |
