Recent research has shown that avatar appearance in virtual reality (VR) can influence users’ perception and psychological states. In particular, embodying a strong-looking avatar has been reported to induce a weight illusion, in which objects are perceived as lighter than their actual weight. However, previous studies have noted that such effects are often accompanied by insufficient body ownership. To address this issue, this study proposes a viewpoint presentation method based on binocular rivalry. By fusing first-person and third-person perspectives, the proposed method aims to maintain both body ownership and agency. We conducted an experiment to investigate the effects of different viewpoint presentation methods on perceived avatar strength, body ownership, agency, self-location, and weight perception. |
