Motion Adaptive Shading using Motion Vectors for Dynamic Shadows

Motion Adaptive Shading (MAS) is an efficient shading technique that adaptively changes shading rates for moving objects. MAS, however, cannot be adapted to moving shadows cast by moving objects on static objects. To address this problem, we incorporate Temporally Reliable Motion Vector (TRMV), which can calculate motion vectors for shadows across consecutive
frames using the spatial relationships between light sources and dynamic objects, into MAS. Evaluation results show that our method can reduce the shading costs for dynamic scenes with minimal image quality deterioration. |
