A Method for Analyzing Athlete Performance using Footage of the 100m Sprint

This study aims to scientifically evaluate sprinting form by performing pose estimation and motion analysis from competitive video footage of the 100-meter sprint. Using high-quality recordings from international competitions, the hip, knee, and ankle joints were manually annotated with Kinovea to generate precise two-dimensional coordinates and time-series data of knee joint angles. To ensure temporal consistency, slow-motion segments were corrected to unify the time axis, and stride cycles were automatically extracted via peak detection. Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) analysis was then applied to each stride waveform to quantify the similarity of motion patterns, enabling the evaluation of form consistency and phase-specific variations. |
