Usefulness of Komorebi in Calm Technology and Its Application to Notification Methods

This study proposes a notification method mediated by Komorebi (dappled sunlight) grounded in the design concept of Calm Technology. By treating this natural phenomenon as an ambient information medium, our approach seamlessly blends into living spaces without demanding focused attention. We developed two prototypes focusing on the essential components of Komorebi: "movement" and "quality of shadow." Through an exhibition at an international conference, we confirmed that the "pleasant" sensation evoked by Komorebi transcends linguistic and cultural barriers, resonating even with attendees unfamiliar with the term. This paper discusses the usefulness of Komorebi as an effective information medium from the perspective of Calm Technology. |
