This study presents "Heartwave 835," a sound installation artwork that sonifies personal space as sound by combining heartbeat sounds—personal biometric information—with AM radio, a medium with local characteristics. Heartbeat sounds are information that symbolizes individual identity, while radio is a regional medium with physical constraints defined by the range of radio wave propagation. This artwork leverages these characteristics to construct a new soundscape that expresses the range of radio waves as an individual's personal space. Participants broadcast pseudo-heartbeat sounds as AM radio waves from a transmitting device worn on their wrist, experiencing the range reached by these radio waves as "auditory personal space." Additionally, by utilizing the interference phenomenon characteristic of AM radio, the artwork expresses a soundscape where the personal spaces of multiple participants overlap and intermingle. |
