Light Sub-path Reservoir Sampling with Hash Grids for Global Illumination

We propose a Bidirectional Path Tracing (BDPT) using a world-space reservoir grid. Our method constructs a spatial hash grid considering the normals of the scene geometries. Then each grid cell stores light sub-path reservoirs, and a light sub-path is resampled using Resampled Importance Sampling (RIS). This approach enhances the connection efficiency with eye sub-paths in BDPT contexts, reducing noise even at low sample counts. Experimental results demonstrate that, particularly in scenes dominated by indirect lighting, our method achieves efficient rendering and reduces noise compared to standard bidirectional path tracing. |
