In character animation, motion data captured via motion capture systems is commonly applied to 3D models to generate animations. However, when the target model has different body proportions from the source, the motion cannot be transferred directly and retargeting becomes necessary. This issue is particularly severe when the relative sizes of body parts differ greatly. For example, applying human motion to a plush-toy-like character with an oversized head and short arms can cause artifacts such as the arms penetrating the head. This study aims to develop a motion retargeting method that can robustly handle 3D models with large inter-part scale differences. |
