Stylized shading for participating media

We propose a non-photorealistic rendering method for participating media. In this method, we use a path tracing framework to combine stylized luminance, which is obtained by converting the luminance of a participating medium into an arbitrary representation, with the luminance of an opaque object on the opposite side of the viewpoint using a process similar to alpha blending, depending on the transmittance of the participating media, to obtain the luminance value at the viewpoint. This allows us to achieve stylized representations that allow you to see through to what is behind participating media, such as smoke or semi-transparent objects. |
