Despite the widespread adoption of remote communication technology, conveying emotions as effectively as in face-to-face conditions remains difficult. This study aims to realize communication technology that can convey emotion by developing a light field display for facial expression transmission. To address the limitations of conventional flat-panel-type light field displays, such as narrow viewing zones, low light efficiency, and low resolution, we proposed a near virtual-image mode light field display using both lens and aperture arrays. Additionally, we constructed and evaluated a communication system by combining the developed light field displays with real-time facial expression transmission using point-cloud representation. |
