Light field displays, including integral three-dimensional (3D) displays, can potentially resolve the vergence–accommodation conflict by increasing the density of light rays forming a 3D image until the super-multiview (SMV) condition is satisfied. However, displaying 3D images that satisfy the SMV condition requires a large number of light rays. To address this issue, we propose an integral 3D display that increases the density of light rays to satisfy the SMV condition in exchange for narrowing the viewing zone to only the periphery of the pupils. We developed a prototype display system and verified the effectiveness of the proposed method. |
