In recent years, interest in environmental and social issues related to products has growing in Western countries and Japan. However, actual purchasing behavior often fails to align with these concerns, meaning that attention to sustainability does not consistently lead to ethical choices. Prior research points to low awareness of ethical consumption and a lack of clear, decision-relevant information at the point of purchase as key barriers. Ultimately, this study aims to contribute to a society in which ethical consumption becomes habitual and is chosen almost unconsciously. As a first step, it conceptually examines and clarifies a consumer behavior model for triggering initial ethical purchases, drawing on theories from behavioral economics and psychology. |
