Dual-Modal Analysis of Visitor Patterns in a Local Event

Evaluating visitor engagement in temporary events is challenging due to limited survey samples and the difficulty of capturing spontaneous movement behavior. Assessments based solely on perception or observed behavior can therefore misjudge stall performance, particularly in visually driven, impulse-oriented environments. This study examines visitor engagement at the Imagine Coffee Event, a local pop-up market in Matsue, Japan using a dual-modal framework that integrates interview-based perceptual analysis with video-based behavioral analysis. Perceptual impressions were obtained from interviews with participant unfamiliar with the event, while behavioral engagement was quantified using visitor trajectories, stopping events, and dwell duration extracted from video recordings. By comparing normalized perceptual and behavioral scores, perceptual-behavioral gaps were identified at the stall level. The results show that sustained engagement emerges when advertisement configuration, product-event fit, and demographic relevance are well aligned, whereas visual noticeable stalls may result to low engagement when this alignment is weak. This framework provides a reproducible method for evaluating stall performance in temporary events without reliance on large-scale surveys. |
