Comprehensive Verification of a Forward Error Correction Scheme for STL/TTL Using Wireless Microwave and Wired IP Links

This paper addresses a high-reliability studio-to-transmitter link/transmitter-to-transmitter link (STL/TTL) system compliant with Advanced Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting – Terrestrial (ISDB-T3). Wireless STL/TTL are susceptible to outages caused by fading and other natural phenomena, necessitating transmission over multiple paths with different error characteristics. In our previous work, an STL/TTL system combining a wireless microwave link and a wired IP link was developed. Forward error correction (FEC) decoding is performed by selecting, on a bit-by-bit basis, the log-likelihood ratio (LLR) with the larger absolute value from the two links. A prototype was implemented, and its effectiveness was verified through field experiments. In this paper, the prototype is extended to support transmission of ISDB-T3 program signals based on MPEG Media Transport (MMT). The system is interfaced with ISDB-T3 modulators and demodulators, and end-to-end verification is conducted. Experimental results confirm correct operation of the transmission chain, demonstrating the feasibility of the proposed system. |
