NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories have been researching on improving Field Pick-up Units (FPUs), which are wireless transmission systems for broadcasting. We have introduced bidirectional transmission using Time Division Duplex (TDD) to the conventional unidirectional FPU, contributing to the standardization of ARIB STD-B75. Furthermore, we are developing a compact TDD-based FPU using polarization MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output), aiming for installation on drones. On the other hand, in TDD systems, uplink and downlink subframes are transmitted alternately. Therefore, the start of each subframe must be detected with high accuracy. ARIB STD-B75 enables subframe beginning detection by inserting a synchronization preamble signal at the beginning of each subframe and detecting the correlation peak at the receiver. However, because a preamble signal is divided into two parts in the frequency domain to obtain orthogonality between the two transmit signals, there is a drawback of reduced signal power. To address this issue, this presentation will describe a proposed preamble signal that multiplexes Zadoff-Chu (ZC) sequences in the frequency domain, which can suppress cross-correlation between different sequences. We will also present computer simulation results showing that the proposed method can detect higher correlation peaks than conventional methods. Furthermore, we will touch upon experiments using a prototype compact TDD-based FPU and discuss future prospects. |
