In 3D smoke simulation, handling high-resolution density fields increases both data size and computational cost. In this study, we a system that reconstructs a 3D density field from a small number of 2D cross-sectional density data and visualizes it using volume rendering. As reconstruction methods, we compared linear interpolation and deep-learning-based reconstruction while varying the number of input cross sections. In the deep-learning-based reconstruction, a 3D density field is generated from latent representations obtained from multiple 2D cross sections. During training, latent-space learning is performed using the ground-truth 3D density field. The comparison showed that linear interpolation produced horizontal stripe-like artifacts In contrast, deep-learning-based reconstruction reduced such stripe artifacts, but lost high-frequency components and fine turbulent structures, resulting in an overall smoothed density field. Based on these results, this paper discusses the characteristics and remaining issues of 3D smoke density field reconstruction from sparse 2D cross sections. |
