Domain-Specific Layer Normalization for RGB-to-NIR Domain Adaptation in Dairy Cow Identification

Camera-based individual monitoring systems have been developed for early detection of disease and estrus signs in dairy cattle. For 24-hour monitoring, Near-Infrared (NIR) cameras are indispensable for nighttime imaging; however, models trained on RGB images suffer from accuracy degradation when applied to NIR images due to domain shift. Although training with NIR images can improve accuracy, their low visibility makes manual annotation costly. We propose an Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (UDA) method requiring no additional manual labeling. Pseudo-labels are generated via over-clustering and voting, and Domain-Specific Layer Normalization (DSLN) is introduced into a Swin Transformer, achieving high individual identification accuracy on both RGB and NIR domains. |
