[Invited Lecture] Study on a Next-Generation TSL Transmission System

(in English) In broadcast program transmission, the data rate of program materials has been increasing due to the widespread adoption of 4K program production. While the capacity of Field Pick-up Units (FPUs) has been enhanced, Transmitter-to-Studio Link (TSL) systems used for relay transmission to studios still rely on conventional schemes, resulting in a mismatch in transmission capacity. We are investigating a transmission scheme for a next-generation TSL system for high-capacity FPUs. The proposed scheme applies advanced technologies adopted in 4K/8K FPUs, including high-order OFDM, polarization MIMO, and LDPC coding, with consideration of compatibility with FPUs and hardware commonality. Furthermore, transmission parameters are designed under the constraint that the occupied bandwidth remains equivalent to that of the conventional TSL systems. Evaluation results using a prototype system demonstrate that the proposed scheme achieves characteristics consistent with theoretical design in terms of occupied bandwidth and C/N versus BER performance, confirming its effectiveness.
