Depth Estimation of Dynamic Objects Using Depth from Focus with a Half-Mirror-Based Imaging System

Depth From Focus (DFF) estimates depth by utilizing focus information from multiple images captured at different focal positions. However, conventional DFF requires sequential image acquisition while changing the focal position, making it difficult to apply to dynamic objects. In this study, we propose an imaging system that uses half mirrors to split the optical path and simultaneously captures images with different focal positions using four cameras. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed system can generate depth maps for scenes containing moving objects, indicating the feasibility of applying DFF to dynamic objects. |
