Extending the depth range of light-field displays using polarization characteristic of liquid crystal displays

Integral-type light-field displays can present three-dimensional images both in front of and behind the display. However, the farther image position is from the reference depth plane, the lower clarity of 3D images is, limiting their depth reproduction range. Therefore, we propose a display structure in which the polarizer of the liquid crystal display is replaced with a reflective polarizer and tilted relative to the liquid crystal panel. By utilizing the light rays reflected by this structure, we generate a virtual display on a depth plane different from that of the actual display, thereby expanding the depth reproduction range. |
