Coordinate Calibration of Aerial-Image and Detected Fingertip Positions in an Aerial Light-Field Display

Toward touchable 3D aerial images, we have calibrated the aerial image position against the detected fingertip position in an AIRR system that uses a light-field display (LFD). First, the relationship between the LFD position and the imaging position of the aerial image was measured. The floating distance was adjustable from 22 to 37 cm, and high linearity was confirmed between the set and measured values. Next, five reference markers were displayed on the aerial image UI, and the three-dimensional fingertip positions were recorded with a hand-tracking sensor. Both the horizontal and vertical directions were related by linear equations, whose slopes showed an anisotropy of about 11 %. |
