Pear grading based on external defects and shape can impose a substantial workload on small-scale farmers, who must individually inspect tens of thousands of fruits within a short shipping period. This study proposes an automated grading support system to reduce this burden. The system captures the sides of each pear using three cameras and applies deep learning to detect the fruit region, external defects, and furrows. It then calculates the defect area ratio, furrow depth, and furrow length ratio and determines the grade according to shipping standards. In an evaluation using images of 100 farm-grown pears, the system achieved a grading accuracy of 83.0% and an average processing time of 0.757 s per fruit, demonstrating automatic grading at a practical processing speed. |
