A Note on Object-Level Quality Assessment and Selective Refinement of Low-Quality Objects in 4D Scene Reconstruction

4D scene reconstruction aims to recover dynamic 3D scenes from multi-view videos, in which the position, shapes, and appearances of objects change over time. Conventional quality metrics for 4D reconstruction mainly assess the quality of entire rendered frames, making it difficult to identify which objects in a scene suffer from quality degradation. In this paper, we extend our previously proposed object-level metric for evaluating 3D scene quality based on object detection to the evaluation of 4D scenes. The proposed method uses a video segmentation model to track the same objects across frames and computes a quality score for each object over time, enabling local quality degradation in dynamic scenes to be evaluated at the object level. Furthermore, as an application of the proposed evaluation method, we also investigate a selective refinement method for 4D Gaussian Splatting that automatically identifies low-quality objects based on the evaluation results and performs additional optimization focused on the corresponding Gaussians. Experiments demonstrate that the proposed evaluation method can capture local quality degradation for individual objects. Moreover, compared with refining the entire scene, the proposed selective refinement method improves the targeted low-quality regions while suppressing quality degradation in regions that are already reconstructed with high quality. |
