Measurement and Evaluation of Three-Dimensional Radiation Patterns of 12 GHz Band Broadcasting-Satellite Receiving Antennas in Japan and Europe

In order to contribute to the ongoing discussions in ITU-R WP 4A on the revision of the reference receive antenna radiation pattern mask used for interference assessment from non-geostationary satellite orbit (non-GSO) communication systems to 12 GHz broadcasting-satellite service (BSS) networks, three-dimensional radiation patterns of commercially available Japanese BSS receiving antennas with aperture diameters of 45 cm and 120 cm were measured. In addition, three-dimensional radiation patterns of commercially available BSS receiving antennas used in Europe were also measured. The measured results were compared with the reference pattern specified in ITU-R Recommendation BO.1443. The comparison revealed regions where sidelobe levels exceeded the reference pattern, primarily due to feed spillover. This paper presents the measurement results and the corresponding evaluation. |
