Recent advances in digital technologies have expanded opportunities to support mindfulness practice. Smartphones, wearable devices, and virtual reality (VR) can not only improve access to mindfulness training but also provide new ways to measure physiological states, deliver feedback, modify audiovisual environments, and personalize interventions. This paper provides an overview of digital mindfulness and discusses how digital technologies may extend mindfulness practice beyond the simple digitization of conventional meditation programs. We also introduce ongoing attempts to incorporate mindfulness into everyday activities and discuss future opportunities and challenges for designing technology-supported mindfulness experiences. |
