The effects of complexities of chord progression on pleasingness
Rie Hayashihara, Masaomi Oda (Ritsumeikan Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) We investigated how complexities of chord progression influenced the pleasingness, liking, and feelings. Six music stimuli, which had 3 complexities of major and minor code progressions, were presented 12 times and asked participants to rate the 11 kinds of measures. As for pleasingness, the rated value of the low complexity condition was high after the first trial, but after the last trial the value in the high complexity increased with the same level of the low condition. However, the effects varied for the other feelings. For examples, there were no effect for sadness or limited effect only to the Major code for happiness.
