Shape-from-highlight with a viewpoint light-source

We studied psychophysically shape-from-highlight with viewpoint light-source. Specifically, we examined the accuracy and the confidence of depth perception in a viewpoint light-source and other light-source conditions. The result showed highlight increases confidence, but not accuracy. This result indicates that highlight doesn’t facilitate correct perception of 3-D shape but rather help to perceive unique shape. This suggests that a crucial effect of highlight is to enhance 3-D impression. |
