Simple reduction technique for luminance fluctuation in mapping of multi-viewpoint texture images

Mapping of multi-viewpoint texture images onto the corresponding 3-D shape model often introduces severe nonuniformity of luminance because of a variation of illumination conditions with respect to each viewpoint. To alleviate this problem, although several model-based compensation techniques based on a surface reflection model and light source information have been proposed, a perfect reduction of such a nonuniformity is generally impossible. This paper therefore proposes a simple reduction technique for the nonuniformity based not on a physical model but on a direct and visual reduction of the nonuniformity. Several experimental results show that the proposed technique is promising. |
