Geometrical Inavariable for People Number Estimation using Video Camera

(in English) We had proposed a technique for estimating the number of people in a video sequence using calibrated monocular camera. In this paper we focus on the geometrical invariable which plays an important role in the proposed method. In the proposed method, “standard surface area(SSA)” was defined as a scale transformation coefficient from pixel to surface area on human body in real world, for each pixel, according to the camera calibration parameters. The sum of SSA along the foreground pixels which corresponds to entire human body becomes invariable which does not depend on the location of the person in real world. However the sum of SSA has some errors in the case each pixel corresponds to rather large surface are on human body. So, in this paper, we evaluate the errors quantitatively. Moreover, the invariable is defined only for simple rectangle shape. Though the silhouette of standing human can be roughly approximated with rectangle shape, the approximation causes some errors. Therefore, we expand the invariable for the case of arbitrary shape. Experiment shows the validity of the expansion.
