New heat-mode optical recording using a two-photon absorption was developed. The recording mark of a convex shape is formed by the process of thermal expansion of the area irradiated by laser, followed by rapid cooling, which resulted in increase in specific volume. The polarity of the recording signal is “high-to-low”, in which the reflectivity of the recording mark is reduced. The recording was demonstrated by Ti/S laser (405nm/76MHz/2psec) at the 100W peak power and 100 nsec recording time. The shape of the recording mark was not affected by the exposure to the environment of 60℃90%RH or of 85℃20%RH for 300 hours. This recording mode has a potential for mark-edge recording as the eye-pattern is obtained by 2T-8T random signal recording. |
