Prototype Compact Super Hi-Vision Camera Head Using a 33-M-pixel Color CMOS Image Sensor

(in English) We have developed a prototype compact Super Hi-Vision (SHV) camera head using a 33-M-pixel color CMOS image sensor. This camera head is connected to a camera control unit (CCU) that was developed for the conventional SHV camera system with four 8-M-pixel CMOS image sensors. To downsize the camera head, video signal processing is mainly implemented in the CCU. Further, to ensure compatibility with the conventional CCU, the camera head implements only video format conversion and color correction. A 12-core multimode optical fiber cable is used to transmit the video signal from the camera head to the CCU. The camera head weighs approximately 4 kg, and its power consumption is approximately 60 W. We plan to develop a practical handy SHV camera based on this prototype camera head.
