[Tutorial Lecture] Reduction Method for Influence of Measurement Cable on Small Antenna

(in English) Coaxial cables connected to a small antenna affect characteristics of antennas because of unbalanced current induced outside of the cables. We introduce two measurement methods to overcome these problems, using fiber optics and S-parameter method. For the measurement method using fiber optics, metal cable connected to the antenna is replaced by fiber optics and influences of the cable can be remarkably reduced. With miniaturized O/E converter connected to the antenna, accurate measurement results can be obtained. For S-parameter method, two cables are connected to an antenna feed line and ground. Excitation coefficients of the two cables are obtained from the S-parameters under condition where unbalanced current of the coaxial cables is reduced. We explain how to obtain impedance, isolation and radiation patterns with reduced unbalanced current of the coaxial cables by S-parameter method.
