Improvement of transmittance in IPS-LCDs using wall electrodes.

(in English) We propose the pixel structure of in-plane switching (IPS) liquid crystal display (LCD) using wall electrodes with an height equivalent to LC layer thickness. From simulations, the electric field in the LC layer becomes non-uniform with wall electrodes when the distance between wall electrodes is much long. To achieve uniform electric field, we propose the pixel with wall electrodes and a pseudo wall electrode of a pair of electrode. Based on experiments, we confirm that the electric field in the pixel with a pseudo wall electrode becomes uniform and the normalized transmittance is 90%, higher than 78% of IPS-Pro.
