Accommodation response measurements and retinal image evaluation for horizontal-parallax-only super multi-view display

(in English) Super multi-view (SMV) displays have been developed to solve the vergence-accommodation conflict. Because the SMV displays developed so far were the horizontal-parallax-only (HPO) type, accommodation responses to the SMV displays were measured mostly for three-dimensional (3D) images containing distinctive vertical edges. In this study, we investigated the influences of the edge properties contained in 3D images upon the accommodation responses evoked by the HPO-SMV display. Two test images were used for the accommodation measurements: a “Maltese cross”, which contains several sharp edges, and a standard test image of “Lenna”, which contains various types of edges. We found that the HPO-SMV display still evoked the accommodation responses when “Lenna” was displayed, although the amounts of the evoked accommodation were smaller than those for the “Maltese cross”, depending on where viewers gazed. We also investigated the blur in retinal images according to the accommodation responses by capturing retinal images.
