Difference in preferred viewing distance by spatial resolution of TV
Masaki Emoto, Masayuki Sugawara (NHK)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Previous studies have suggested that image resolution and contents have little effect on the preferred viewing distance (PVD) of traditional TV systems. However, in future TV systems such as ultra-high-definition TVs, which are expected to have a wide field of view and high spatial resolution, program production methods may change depending on the specific values of these parameters, and viewer behaviors including PVD may change accordingly. Here we used a program consisting of still images to show that PVD is shorter in the high spatial resolution TV than low spatial resolution TV.
