[Invited Lecture] Photoalignment Technology for High Performance IPS-LCDs

(in English) We have developed new photoalignment technology using original material and process technology, which improves azimuthal anchoring strength to a level equivalent to that of rubbing, and reduces photoirradiation energy to a level required for mass production. We have also clarified that this photoalignment technology enables the use of negative LC for IPS-LCDs, which improves panel specification effectively. This is because the azimuthal anchoring strength of the photoalignment does not depend on the surface unevenness of the substrates, nor does it depend on the alignment axis against the direction of the interdigital electrodes. By the practical application of our photoalignment technology and negative LC, we realized the remarkably improved panel performance of IPS-LCDs.
