Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) People who experience Super Hi-Vision (8K) display often report stronger depth sensation than Hi-Vision (2K). However, it is still unknown how the stimulus resolution correlates with depth perception. To investigate the relationship between the resolution of shading images and the depth perception, here, we psychophysically compared depth sensation of composite stimuli (Gabor patch and Cylinder) with 2K, 4K, and 8K (30, 60 120 cpd, respectively). The results clearly show that higher resolution facilitates depth sensation even when the resolution difference is undetectable. This indicates that SHV provides the audiences with unparalleled realistic sensation.
