Proposal of a Method to Express Verbal Impressions in the Style of Ink-Wash Painting

The essence of painting is the expression of impressions, so the subjects are how to extract and express impressions in painting generation. We have researched the externalization and abstraction of the process of painting generation through ink-wash painting as an example. First, this paper describes typical drawing elements in ink-wash painting, and clarifies the relation between drawing elements in ink-wash painting and impressions by the impression evaluation experiment with 89 pairs of sensitivity word and stimulus of drawing elements to express verbal impressions. In the result, 21 pairs have related to the width of line, for example "sensitive - insensitive", and 22 pairs have related to the thickness, for example "soft - hard". This paper proposes an ink-wash painting generation system from verbal expressions. |
