Prototype Evaluation of a Design Method Using Tunable Shorted Stubs for Multiband RF Circuits

(in English) In this paper, a new design method for multiband RF circuits which can switch their frequency bands is proposed. The simulated and measured results of the prototype circuit are also discussed. The proposed circuit employs two tunable shorted stubs attached at the input and output terminals of the RF circuit. The operating frequency bands of the RF circuit can be switched by changing the stub length. As the shorted stub acts as a reactive element, the normalized input/output impedances of the active device must be converted to the normalized conductance of by pre-matching networks. First, the pre-matching circuit design of a dual-band amplifier is explained in detail as an example, and a practical configuration of the tunable shorted stub using a PIN diode switch is also proposed. Finally, a prototype circuit which switches its operation bands between 0.8 and 2.0 GHz is demonstrated to verify the proposed design method.
