Fast image computation for multilayer displays

(in English) This paper presents a new method to convert a light field into a set of layered images suitable for showing on multilayer displays. In conventional methods, such a conversion generally involves a time-consuming optimizing process, which prevents us from computing the images in real time. Here we discuss that the conversion can be simplified substantially by imposing additional constraints on the light field as well as on the optical properties of LC (liquid crystal) panels to be embedded into multilayer displays. We then examine the computational efficiency of the proposed method using a few sample 3D scenes. In particular, the method is shown to work almost in real-time without any assistance of GPUs.
