With the spread of communication networks using IP (Internet Protocol), technical development and standardization of transmitting uncompressed or compressed video signals in IP packets is performed. In an IP transmission, network switch equipment, which has been placed in the transmission path, may be successively discards the input packet (burst loss). When a transmission packet loss is occurred, block noise appears on the video signal to be recovered at the receiver side, so that stable video transmission becomes difficult. Therefore, FEC (Forward Error Correction) method to restore the lost packets is effective. In this paper, we propose the new FEC method to improve the burst loss resistance compared to the conventional method, which restore the lost packet using the exclusive OR operation. We also report about our simulation results of the new FEC performance. |
