A Study on the Forward Error Correction Pointer for the Next Generation Terrestrial Broadcasting

(in English) NHK is conducting research on the next generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting to enable large-volume content such as 8K Super Hi-Vision. LDPC codes have been studied as forward error collection (FEC). The error correction capability of LDPC code can be improved by increasing the code length. However, it would be difficult to set the number of data bits in an OFDM frame to an integer multiple of the long code length. Then, even if OFDM frame synchronization is acquired in the receiver, the beginning of LDPC code cannot be detected. So we propose FEC pointer to inform the decoding position to the receiver. This paper describes the computer simulation results of the FEC pointer transmission.
