||This paper introduces researches on video compression and visual communication by the author. On video compression, researches on wavelet transform, overlapped motion compensation, IPB prediction structure and quantization noise reduction are introduced, which are commonly based on rate-distortion optimization and error minimization. On visual communication, the author’s contributions to MPEG-4 IM1, transport protocol design which supports low delay and high throughput, and tree/mesh hybrid P2P supporting low delay and robustness against node failure are provided. Furthermore, as recent results by the author, a video delivery system which exploits mobility of transportation vehicles and a navigation system which provides a moving route having good communication quality for mobile video streaming are introduced.
