Second-order plaid-motion perception mediated by s-cone channel signal

For the purpose of an investigation how chromatic information can contribute to motion mechanisms, we psychophysically examined whether motion signals defined by second-order-chromatic and -achromatic stimuli can be integrated each other to perceive a plaid motion. We found that the perception of the integrated motion (coherent motion) as a plaid motion occurred at the identical temporal frequency of the envelope component of the second-order stimuli. This was supported by our previous studies indicating that the chromatic motion signal can contribute to the motion mechanism as well as the achromatic motion signal. However, taking account of the previous studies showing that chromatic motion perceived more slowly than the luminance motion, we need to explore the investigation of the motion mechanisms. |
